Jesus was a master communicator - not only did He speak truth, but He IS the Truth. THE Truth. And, He desired for His messages to penetrate the hearts and minds of those who would listen. He spoke of those “with ears to hear.” There are some who would perhaps listen, but never hear. Or who would hear, but never understand and receive. We should always be looking for ways to relate truth to a world that needs to hear and respond to the message of the gospel. In Mark 4 (ESV), we can read:
9 And he said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
10 And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. 11 And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables, 12 so that
“‘they may indeed see but not perceive,
and may indeed hear but not understand,
lest they should turn and be forgiven.’”
With the abundance of impulses and influences that people are exposed to each day, it’s important that communicators are trying to cut through the noise. And, apparently, there is a new form of online content that is trending, and a well-known Christian communicator is riding the wave. Relevant Magazine reports that former Heisman Trophy winner and media host Tim Tebow “announced a new venture called Lighthouse Verticals, a streaming platform dedicated to faith-based and family-friendly microdramas — the bite-sized, vertically shot scripted series that have become one of the fastest-growing trends in streaming.”
Tebow says, “I believe stories have the power to change how people see themselves, see others and ultimately see Jesus,” adding, “We’re committed to telling stories with excellence and our hope is that, ultimately, we can glorify God in the process.”
Jesse Liddell has been tapped to be the CEO of the fledgling company. The article relates that he “Liddell said the goal is to serve an audience that has been largely ignored as the microdrama format has exploded in popularity.” Liddell noted, “They want entertainment with real emotion, real momentum and values they can trust,” adding, “But they have largely been overlooked by the fastest-growing platforms in the space.” The space so far has been filled mainly with romance stories, but this venture wants to produce content devoted to “faith, comedy, family and drama.”
The former QB has also used his communication skills to address one of the heinous issues of our time: human trafficking. As The Washington Stand reported in March:
On March 3, former NFL quarterback and founder of the Tim Tebow Foundation, Tim Tebow, testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism. This was his second time speaking before Congress (having also testified in 2024), urging them to pass the Renewed Hope Act as a major step toward defeating the evil of child sex trafficking.
But, the legislation that would provide additional funding and personnel to fight human trafficking had stalled in Congress…that is until Tebow and Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley met at a pregnancy resource center banquet. The Stand noted:
…on June 5, the Senate passed the Renewed Hope Act and the House followed on June 9 as part of the reconciliation bill funding the Department of Homeland Security (the Secure America Act).
The Washington Times describes how it was a “chance” (or God-ordained) encounter in April between Tebow and Missouri Senator Josh Hawley (R) that gave the Renewed Hope Act renewed hope of being passed: both were speakers at a pro-life pregnancy resource center gala. Tebow told Hawley, “I could really use your help…I’ve gotten [the Renewed Hope Act] through the House, but we’ve never been able to get any traction in the Senate.”
Hawley arranged for the act’s provision to be included in the Secure America Act, which was signed by the President. Tebow, in thanking lawmakers, stated: “Right now, 89,000 unidentified image series of children being sexually abused have been seen by law enforcement — but these children have yet to be identified and are still waiting to be found due to resource and manpower shortages. Every day we don’t act is another day they’re in harm’s way. Today, we acted.”
This is an example of using influence to get something valuable done. And, coming soon, you can expect the development of new content through microdramas that will influence people with a gospel message.
It’s a great lesson for us. You’re probably not a current or professional athlete. You may not even know how to take a selfie - that’s not my gift, either. Or produce a video. But, you can consider how God will use you to communicate His truth to the people you might meet. There may be a volunteer position at your church that God is calling you to plug into. Or you may speak about Christ in a conversation. Or even place a tract somewhere where someone will see it, read, and “hear” the message.
There is a massive harvest field that awaits us. And, the people of God have been uniquely gifted and positioned to bring the message of hope to the world. I didn’t say qualified, mind you - He doesn’t call the qualified, as it’s been said, He qualifies the called. He is our Teacher and provides the open doors for us to do His will.
